Teaching Birmingham's young people the value of money through practical, engaging education.
mossy-roam began in 2019 when a group of educators and financial professionals noticed a troubling gap. Despite living in an increasingly complex financial world, most children received little to no formal education about money management.
Schools focus on mathematics and literacy, but rarely address practical skills like budgeting, saving, or understanding the true cost of purchases. We set out to change that, creating programmes specifically designed for young minds at different developmental stages.
Based in Birmingham, we've grown from weekend workshops in a community centre to a team of dedicated educators serving families across the West Midlands. Our approach combines proven educational methods with the real-world experience of financial planning professionals.
The beliefs and principles that guide every session we run.
Financial attitudes formed in childhood persist into adulthood. By teaching children early, we help establish positive money behaviours that last a lifetime.
Children absorb concepts best when engaged and enjoying themselves. Our workshops feel more like games than lessons, making financial literacy naturally appealing.
Real learning extends beyond our sessions. We equip parents with tools and activities to reinforce concepts at home, making financial education a family journey.
We don't simply teach children what adults know about money. Instead, we've developed age-appropriate curricula that meet young people where they are developmentally.
For younger children, we focus on tangible concepts: recognising coins, understanding that items cost different amounts, and the basic idea that saving now means having more later. Older children explore more complex topics like opportunity cost, compound growth, and responsible digital spending.
Every session includes hands-on activities. Children might run a pretend shop, budget for a fictional holiday, or work through scenarios that mirror real-life decisions. These experiences create lasting memories and practical skills.
